Harvard Model United Nations 2022
Deadline: 31st October, 2021
Duration: 10th -13th February, 2022
Details: HMUN is committed to serve the future leaders of the world. We are looking for student leaders who are ready to tackle some of the world’s most pressing issues and bring about informed action. Our students come from a diverse range of backgrounds, experiences, and interests. We welcome and encourage all students to apply for this educational experience.
Please note that due to the competitive nature of HMUN applications, acceptance to the conference is not guaranteed. We strongly discourage schools from making travel arrangements prior to receiving a confirmation of their acceptance and country assignment.
In order to be eligible to apply for HMUN 2022, applicants must be 13 years of age or older and enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a high school during the period of January 27 to January 30, 2022. College students are not eligible to apply for HMUN 2022.
We understand that some high schools may culminate before the dates of the conference. You are eligible to apply to HMUN 2022 as long as you will not be matriculated in a college during the period of January 27 to January 30, 2022.
HMUN 2022 is open to students who are:
Of any nationality or citizenship
Of any gender, race, or ethnicity
At least 13 years old
Currently enrolled in high school or recent graduates of high school
Will not be matriculated in a college during the period of January 27 to January 30, 2022.
Once accepted, students must be accompanied by a faculty advisor. Teachers, university students, parents, administrators, and other adults 18 years of age or older are eligible to serve as faculty advisors. Any individual who is eligible to participate at HMUN as a delegate is ineligible to serve as a faculty advisor.
Students interested in applying to the conference may apply through a school or as an individual delegate.
As such, applicants may apply through three different channels:
Large Delegations: Schools with more than 9 students are considered large delegations. Students in large delegations may find themselves in all three committee types – the General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council & Regional Bodies, and the Specialized Agencies. Please keep in mind that schools may receive no more than two General Assembly assignments. Additional students under a large delegation may also apply via the Specialized Application.
Small Delegations: Schools with 9 or fewer students are considered small delegations. Students in small delegations may find themselves in the Economic and Social Council & Regional Bodies, and the Specialized Agencies. Additional students under a small delegation may also apply via the Specialized Application.
Individual Delegates: Individuals not applying as a delegation through their school may also apply to HMUN through MUNBase. Note that applicants applying as individual delegates must also be accompanied by a faculty advisor.
Prior to applying, please take a look at our country assignment information below.
Please locate our possible country assignments being offered at HMUN 2022 here.
Due to the large number of schools interested in HMUN, we will assign no more than two General Assembly delegations or one General Assembly and one Economic and Social Council delegation to any single school. Schools that apply for two Economic and Social Council delegations may be assigned one General Assembly delegation instead. Please note that a delegation in the General Assembly may also include seats on the Security Council and Historical Security Council. Positions on the Regional Bodies committees are also assigned as part of the General Assembly country delegations.
Country assignments are determined by a variety of factors, including model United Nations experience, number of delegates requested, and country preferences. If you are not assigned one of the countries you requested, it may be to ensure that you receive the number of spots requested.
Each year, HMUN receives a large number of applications and the selection process is highly competitive. Each application is carefully reviewed by the Secretariat of HMUN and evaluated holistically based on previous model United Nations experience, delegate performance, attendance at past HMUN conferences, and the students’ motivation and commitment.
Please note that a submitted application does not necessarily mean acceptance to the conference. HMUN reserves the right to administer acceptances to the conference.
Dates and Timeline:
HMUN applications are highly competitive; therefore, we greatly encourage delegations to apply early in order to increase their chances of acceptance. Decisions will be released on a rolling basis. Please be patient as we evaluate your application materials.
Please note that the General Registration Deadline is October 31st, 2021.
