Details:  The GIMUN Team in partnership with the University of Ghana French Club and the Political Science Students’ Association is organizing the Eleventh Session of Ghana International Model United Nations conference in Accra on 6th – 9th January, 2020. The theme for the conference is, “Bridging the Transformational Gap”.GIMUN 2020 residential conference will bring seven hundred young people together to simulate some Specialized Bodies of the United Nations in English and French. By the 2020 theme, the conference will focus on actions needed to be taken to ensure all are included in the developmental agenda of governments of member states of the United Nations.

The annual conference aims to prepare young people for global assignments by equipping them with leadership and diplomatic skills in research, writing, public speaking, lobbying and negotiations. It also raises the awareness on the role the United Nations plays in world affairs and to encourage the next generation of leaders to get involved in global issues. Several measures have been taken to ensure that the simulation accurately reflects the way the UN works. The conference shall therefore be directed by very experienced young people. An intensive training session will be conducted for officials by the UN Information Center, Accra before the main conference. Some officials will attend other international Model UN conferences and workshops in Europe and USA to gather much experience and networks.

Several Diplomats and Academic including the former United Nations Resident Coordinator, former Director of United Nations University’s Institute of Natural Resources in Africa, the former Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, the Danish Ambassador, the Indian High Commissioner, the former Deputy Head of Missions of Royal Netherlands Embassy, The Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Academics and Students’ Affairs(University of Ghana), the Dean of Students’ Affairs of the University of Ghana and staffs of United Nations Information Center, Accra and UNDP have all been guests at our past conferences.

GIMUN would work closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration; Ministry of Education; United Nations Information Center, Accra; United Nations University; National Youth Authority; National Union of Ghana Students; and many youth groups to ensure a successful conference. GIMUN 2020 will be much inclusive to ensure it is gender balanced and provides an equal chance for youth from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds.
